Making 3D images through a conventional microscope is both a
technical challenge and a source for much artistic and scientific material. Moderate to high
magnification microscope images are inherently flat, with
limited height and very little depth of field. Digital
reconstruction from stacks of images is used to recover an extended focal
range. We present
images in stereo from just a single composite view by using direct
depth mapping. Twin-shot extreme 3D macro photography
is also possible with these methods.
