UPPER ANTELOPE CANYON

Upper Antelope Canyon is a major tourist destination east of Page Arizona on AZ 98.  There is a concession stand that sells entry passes and provides jeep transport from the roadside gate to the slot.  Negotiating the slot is trivial, as it is flat and sandy, with only a couple of narrow squeezes.  Most days it is a zoo, with loads of photographers and the curious arriving every 30 minutes.  Setting up and making a long exposure without having someone walk into the view will be difficult, though people are usually cooperative if you let them know what you are doing.  There are some narrow passages where it may, because of the traffic, just be impossible.

In spite of this Upper Antelope is on every photographers wish list and indeed is worth the hassle.  Again, because of the dim light, a tripod is essential.  A cable release, preferably electronic (less shake), is helpful too, although in a pinch the camera's self timer can be used.  Bracket plus and minus one stop.  Between noon and 2pm (roughly, depending on season), the sunbeam makes it to the floor and a little natural or tossed dust leads to some interesting special-effects shots.  Again, keep direct sunlight out of your images.
