CROCODILES Observing crocodiles is a matter of time and location (Africa) and a bit of luck (America). The American Salt Water Crocodile is a rare endangered species, but I was lucky to find one in Everglades Park in Florida. His dental work was pretty nice and he didn't mind my approach. African Nile Crocodiles can be found almost everywhere. Along the Chobe River, Botswana, we approached within a few feet by boat (I thought the croc might even jump in). I have observed them feeding on wildebeeste in the Mara River, Masai Mara NP, Kenya, in August during the migration, and have watched them frolic in numerous waterholes in Zimbabwe. The biggest ones I've seen were in the Zambezi down at Mana Pools in Zimbabwe. Photography demands patience, waiting for them to come out of the water to sunbathe or make a kill. |
