HYENA

Recent research has shown that these animals are not just scavengers, but opportunistic hunters as well.  They are difficult to observe on foot.  Using a vehicle as a blind is probably the only practical way to watch and photograph them because they are wary.  Try to find a den.  Dens are used repeatedly so local guides may know an active location.

Good Spots:  

Masai Mara NP, Kenya,  Serengeti, Tanzania.

They also appear in most other parks, but waterhole-based, stay-on-the-road places like Etosha and Hwange are perhaps not as good as Masai Mara where you can approach a kill or a den.
